We get this question a lot, since Mookie is such a new kind of business. It’s a good question, too. The process can actually vary a lot from project to project, but the basic principle is to connect a marketer – who has a need for creative and good-quality film material – with Mookie’s community of talented film contributors. How does it work in practice? Here are a couple of simple examples:
1. A few ideas wanted. A global audience gained.
One scenario could be that an advertiser wants to receive ideas on how a particular product should be marketed in order to attract attention. The advertiser contacts Mookie, and we set up a contest among all members in our community. A description of the assignment, together with some of the advertiser’s brand assets (their logo, typefaces and images, for example) are posted onto a dedicated contest page. To encourage contributors to participate, the advertiser issues a cash prize for the winners. Film material then starts to be uploaded and the advertiser finally selects the top five contributions. The advertiser not only gains access to outstanding ideas, but also great video clips that can be distributed through viral marketing channels. The result is potentially millions of downloads - at 20% of the cost of more traditionally produced and distributed commercial.
2. Matchmaking talent with buyers.
Another scenario could be that a company wants to put a short video on its website. They contact Mookie, work together to develop the assignment description, and post it within the community. The company receives over 50 applications from contributors in the community, including samples of their work. The company then selects the contributor they feel is best, and Mookie plays a supporting role in sealing the agreement – helping both parties with the contract. With the paperwork out of the way, the contributor can start the ‘real’ work of producing the video. When completed, the company pays the contributor.
There are many other ways a Mookie project could work, but the basic offering for marketers remains the same: a wealth of ideas, production material and distribution knowledge through the use of skilled and professional people in the community. All delivered in a solid and trustworthy interface, and with a choice of pre-determined service packages or unique set-ups tailored to your individual needs.
